Every step counts.
The 10,000 Steps Program is a free and evidence-based initiative by CQUniversity, encouraging Australians to move more each day since 2001. Whether you're just starting out, walking on your own, or stepping up with friends, family, or colleagues, the program offers tools, challenges, and resources to help you stay motivated and reach your goals.
Funded by Health and Wellbeing Queensland and Preventive Health SA, 10,000 Steps encourages incorporating movement into daily lives by finding more ways to move, tracking steps, setting goals and monitoring progress.

For Communities
10,000 Steps provides resources and tools to support healthy, active communities through creating supportive environments and encouraging social connections to promote physical activity.

Why Track Steps?
Research has shown that people who track their steps are more likely to have higher physical activity levels. Tracking steps helps you become aware of how much you are moving every day and recording your steps can be a powerful motivator.
So, put on your tracker and see how many steps you take. Start by adding 500 - 1,000 steps to your day. Find something you enjoy, that fits in with what you’re doing, saves you time, or is satisfying to make physical activity become part of your everyday. And remember, whether you do your activity all at once or in short bursts, every step and minute of activity counts!

Active and Inspired
"I was already very active, however this has made it more fun. I have competitions with my mother who is also a member of 10,000 Steps. The biggest surprise with all this activity was that I won a prize for doing it. Having the challenges has inspired me to do more walking and other healthy activities."

Stepping Strong at 86
"I've been with 10,000 Steps from way back when they first got going, even before the internet came along. Tickled to bits that 80 million steps has just clicked over. As I was near 50 before joining, I reckon I can put my hand up to a million steps for each year of my life."
- Peter H.
Healthy Fun Together
"I have to credit the 10,000 Steps program with getting many of my family members to exercise as they wanted to look like they are trying in our Group. I have found the same to be true at work. The fun practice of checking your steps each day has made for a positive interaction with both of my groups!"
