Before you start:

10,000 Steps is a small non-profit organisation that aims to offer a flexible program for our members to log their steps in Challenges and Tournaments. 10,000 Steps strives to provide connections where we can, and direct step entry options where we can't.

What Tracker Connections are available on your mobile app?

The 10,000 Steps mobile app can sync steps from devices that record steps and are compatible with Apple Health (Apple iOS).

If you are looking to sync steps from Apple Health only, please see:

Where tracker connection fails or devices record activity other than steps, direct entry is the most accurate option. Direct entry is available via our website or mobile app.

What happened to Health Connect?

Health Connect released as part of Android 14 in late October 2023. This transition knocked out compatibility with many apps, including 10,000 Steps.

We are currently working towards a compatible release, but do not have a timeline for when this will be available. Check out Mobile App Troubleshooting for the most recent updates on 10,000 Steps for Android.

If you are currently on Android 13 or Android 12, you may still be able to successfully sync through the Health Connect Beta app. It is expected that syncing through Health Connect Beta is likely to fail without notice when Google next updates or removes this option.

What other apps can I use to sync my steps?

10,000 Steps does not recommend the use of data syncing apps beyond 10,000 Steps, Apple Health or Android Health Connect.

We understand that third party apps do exist that claim to bridge the connection between proprietary tracking apps and Apple Health or Health Connect, but do not provide support information for these.

Do you have Tracker Connections on your website?

We recommend connecting your devices through Apple Health where possible.

Where connecting via our mobile app is not possible, your Garmin, Google Fit, or Fitbit accounts can be connected to the website version of your account via Tracker Connections.

These are website-to-website connections, and are less real-time than mobile connections. Garmin, Google Fit, and Fitbit send step data in batches through this method, and you may experience delayed step syncing (usually 1 - 12 hours) and dropouts.

We recommend checking in with your step log in the final days of your Tournament or Challenge to confirm there are no missed days or incorrect step logs. You can view and edit your step log at any time via Dashboard > View Step Log.

Website Step Logging and Syncing Guides

Can I track more than just steps?

Your Step Log also allows you to track minutes of physical activity (moderate or vigorous), designed for activity that is not typically captured with step counters (e.g. swimming). We have some information below on our step conversions, and how our members can use moderate and vigorous minutes.

My brand of step tracker is very popular- why doesn't it work?

Some large proprietary tracking apps allow their step data to be shared with only Apple Health, or only Health Connect, or only within their own platform or app.

Please reach out to the team at your tracking app to encourage them to allow their users more control of their step and health data.
