Step into Nature

Step into Nature - Promoting physical activity in nature for community-based health and well-being

Step into Nature

CQUniversity’s 10,000 Steps team are developing a Step into Nature campaign with the aim of inspiring and encouraging people of all ages, abilities, and cultures to connect with nature and engage in regular active recreation and physical activity.

Delivered through the 10,000 Steps Program, the campaign encourages all Queenslanders to be physically active in their local natural environments. This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government Department of Sport, Racing, Olympic and Paralympic Games through an ActiveKIT grant.

During stage 1 of the project 'Consultation', we will be developing Step into Nature campaign resources and tools for use by organisations interested in encouraging their communities to be more physically active outdoors. We will be seeking valuable feedback and ideas from our 10,000 Steps Coordinators and Stakeholders through an online survey and via informal drop-in sessions in February and March 2025.

CONSULTATION

Talking with existing and interested local councils and community groups to co-create strategies that promote physical activity in nature in their region.

INNOVATION

Implementing innovate upgrades which increase interactive feedback on steps logged across Queensland on the 10,000 Steps website.

IMPLEMENTATION

Developing supportive resources, tools and campaign materials to support the implementation of a Step into Nature campaign in regions across Queensland.

How can you get involved?

If you're a Coordinator in Queensland, we would love to know what nature-based physical activity means to your community, and what steps data your organisation would find valuable. Your input will help shape new resources we create and make available for your use.

Share your thoughts!

PLUS, all registered Coordinators who complete the survey by Monday 17th of February go in the draw to WIN one of two Community Prize Packs with 25 pedometers, lanyards and logbooks.

  • Drop-in for a chat (virtually) at one of our informal drop-in sessions. We'll be available to discuss your ideas and other feedback we've received, plus answer any questions you may have, during the following times:
    • Tuesday 25th February, 11am-12pm
    • Wednesday 5th March, 10am-11am

You can opt in to receive an invite to attend a drop-in session in the Survey or by contacting the project office.
