Staying active during the Challenge
Regular physical activity provides significant physical and mental health benefits. Finding more ways to move each day is a simple step towards better health and wellbeing. There are so many ways to be active in South Australia! Here are some tips to help you stay active during the Challenge:
- If you use public transport, get off a stop early and walk the rest of the way.
- Park your car a bit further than usual to add some extra steps.
- Choose the stairs over lifts or escalators when possible.
- Take your dog for a morning or afternoon walk around the neighbourhood.
- Walk outside while you chat on the phone.
- Remember to take regular breaks from sitting.
- Schedule a time to meet a friend or family member for a walk and a coffee catch-up.
FAQ: What can I use to track my steps?
You can use any type of activity tracker that you have to track your steps. This could be an internal smart phone pedometer, a step counting app or any other type of wrist or hip worn device that counts your steps. You can enter steps from any step counting device on both the website or app.
FAQ: How can I sync my steps?
Use the 10,000 Steps mobile app for iOS or Android devices to sync your steps through Apple Health or Health Connect. Third party devices can also be connected via Apple Health and Health Connect. Find out more with Can I sync my step tracking device?
FAQ: Can I track other activities?
Every move counts, whether you are a wheelchair user or like to swim, cycle, garden or lift. You can use the moderate and/or vigorous intensity sections in the Dashboard on the web or app to add the time in minutes for your non-step activity. This will add additional steps calculated based on your entered activity minutes. Check out the conversion here.
FAQ: Can I also join the November Monthly Challenge?
Yes, you can join the November Monthly Challenge in addition to a Group Challenge or Tournament. You don't need to log your steps multiple times - just once per day. Your steps will only count once towards the Billion Steps Challenge Leaderboard, even when you participate in multiple challenge types during November.
