Strategy: Walkway Signage
Bundaberg Regional Council was one of 12 10,000 Steps Community Grant recipients awarded funding for the implementation of 10,000 Steps Community Strategies in 2018. Bundaberg Regional Council want to increase awareness of the connectivity of our community and highlight achievable distances so that people can increase walking/jogging as a means to visit shops, parks, work, playgrounds and general health and fitness activities.
Background
Bundaberg Regional Council is a local government who are renowned for the friendliness of their residents, superb climate, affordable cost of living, first-class facilities and relaxed lifestyle. Bundaberg Regional Council strive to make participating in sport and exercise affordable, convenient and enjoyable for the community.
Implementation
- A total of 51 new and updated signs were installed along four pathways in the Bundaberg Region: two in Childers, one in Gin Gin and one in Bargara.
- Interactive walkway map brochures were published online.
Outcomes
- The new signs have an ongoing awareness well after installation.
- Ongoing promotional materials in the 'Be Active Be Alive' programs and newsletters.
- Ongoing work with walking and community groups to encourage additional walkers to use these great paths.
