Strategy: Walkway Signage (Renewal)
Rockhampton Regional Council was one of 12 10,000 Steps Community Grant recipients awarded funding for the implementation of 10,000 Steps Community Strategies in 2018. Rockhampton Regional Council renewed previously installed 10,000 Steps Walkway Signage with new branding and updated information to encourage to use of walking tracks, as well as the printed and distributed a newly developed, 10,000 Steps Walkway Brochure.
Background
Rockhampton Regional Council is a local government dedicated to building an active community by providing safe and accessible parklands, providing support in the delivery of sport and recreation activities, showcasing the Region's facilities and encouraging residents to be physically active.
Rockhampton has been involved with 10,000 Steps since it launched and as a result the existing signage was worn and the brochures required updating.
Implementation
- Replaced the bollards and signage along the entire length of the Yeppen Lagoon.
- The previously updated walkway maps (2017 Community Grants), were printed again and redistributed to existing locations and also available at the Rockhampton Regional Council's 2019 Sports and Health Expo.
- The walkway brochures were also provided to the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQ Health) to utilise during intervention programs and to supply in 'New Employee' packages.
- The replaces signs were promoted in the KickStart CQ e-bulletin, on the Rockhampton Regional Council website and on the KickStart CQ Facebook page.
Outcomes
- Allowed greater visibility and appeal of signage on one of the most utilised walkways in the region.
- This grant afforded the replacement of the 10,000 Steps signs as the council sign replacements are prioritised in the budget.
- Promoting the new walkway brochures had the possibility of reaching the following numbers: KickStart CQ e-bulletin - 400+ subscribers, KickStart CQ Facebook page - 2,500 followers.
